What is a group of details and why to use it?

See the dedicated article here.

How to create and manage groups of details?

There are two ways of creating a new group of details.

  • If you are creating a new item detail and want it to be embodied into a new group of details, there is a way of doing so right from the form for founding new item details (see case 1 below)
  • In order to create more than one groups of details at the same time and to manage the existing groups of details, go to the datasheet settings (see case 2 below)

Case 1. Create a new group of details while founding a new item detail

Step 1. Open any item of the datasheet to which you would like to add a group of details. Scroll the page all the way down and click on the blue plus symbol. Then fill in the information in order to create a new item detail.

Step 2. Go to "more details"

Step 3. Point your cursor at the spot where you can see the blue plus in the picture below. When your blue plus appears, click on it.

Step 3. Choose the name for your new group of details

Step 4. Save

Case 2. Create more than one groups of details

Step 1. Click on the icon to go to datasheet settings (only accessible to administrators)

Step 2. In the "Groups" section, you can either choose to create a new group of details (2a. on the picture below) or to edit an existing one (2b.)

Step 3. Edit / type in the title

Step 4. Save

A new group is now created. However, it is not visible on the "details" tab yet because it is still empty - there is no item detail in it.

How to add item details into a group of details?

Step 1. Open any item of the datasheet

Step 2. Hover your mouse over the title of one of the item details that you would like to classify into your new group of details. When the pen icon appears next to it, go ahead and click on it. This will allow you to edit the item detail and its properties.

Step 3. Go to "more settings"

Step 4. Scroll down and find the section "Group". Then select your new group from the drop-down list.

Step 5. Scroll all the way down and save.

And what's the result? Open any item of the datasheet and scroll all the way down. You will find your new group of details there. Continue adding more item details into the group.

How to edit or delete a group of details?

For editing, see the instructions below.

Deleting a group is only possible if there are no item details embodied in it. Therefore, make sure that the group is empty.

To empty a group of details, you can either delete the item details or move them to some other group (or choose the option "---" to make it one of the basic item details) - see the section "How to add item details into groups" above.

Instructions:

Step 1. Go to the menu for editing datasheets and find the section "Groups" (see step 1 and 2 of the "case 2" above)

Step 2. For editing a group, click on the pen icon  at the appropriate line. To delete a group, click on the garbage can icon . This icon is only visible when the group is empty and it is thus possible to delete it.

Step 3. Save
